My research spans the areas of Human-Computer Interaction and Information Science, with a focus on the World Wide Web. In particular, I am interested in using a mixture of qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques to better understand how users interact with their web browsers to find information on the Web. My Ph.D. dissertation, entitled “An Examination of User Behaviour During Web Information Tasks”, explored the types of tasks in which people engage on the Web and how people use their web browsers to complete these tasks.
Themes prevalent in my research include understanding the characteristics of web information tasks, including monitoring as an activity within these tasks; using implicit measures to infer user interest, task, and goals; studying novel web browser tools and functionality; and using a mixed-methodology approach to study user behaviour on the Web.
